Brussels, 26/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission is expected to adopt the complementary delegated act on the climate component of the EU taxonomy on 2 February, according to information obtained by EUROPE. Initially scheduled for the end of January, this document foresees the inclusion of fossil gas and nuclear energy in the taxonomy as “transitional” activities, provided certain criteria are met (see EUROPE 12860/1). Member States and stakeholders in the ‘Platform on Sustainable Finance’ had until 21 January to send the Commission their thoughts on the draft text (see EUROPE 12875/9). According to MEP Michael Bloss (Greens/EFA, Germany), the Commission does not intend to substantially change the text. Once the delegated act has been adopted by the institution, the European Parliament and the EU Council will have four months (six if they request an extension) to possibly object to it. When asked by EUROPE, the Commission did not confirm the date of 2 February. (DG)
