26/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – In view of the meeting of the Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA) on Monday 31 January, the French Presidency of the EU Council has drafted a reflection paper (https://bit.ly/3nYxMrc - in French), dated 25 January, on “low-carbon agriculture as a new economic model”. According to the document, the development of an economic model that allows farmers to be remunerated for their efforts to combat climate change is a major challenge. This text reviews the practices that may require certification to open the possibility of remuneration. Questions are put to the SCA experts, notably regarding public funding within the framework of the strategic plans under the CAP, to encourage and promote agricultural and forestry practices which are advantageous for carbon storage. This topic is a priority for France during the six-month presidency (see EUROPE 12876/14) (LC)
