26/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent to the European Commission on Tuesday 25 January, the chairman of the European Parliament's Environment Committee, Pascal Canfin, and some thirty European business leaders, including Veolia, Generali and Iberdrola, suggest that the legislative proposal on sustainable corporate governance, expected in mid-February, should include a regulatory provision linking the granting of bonuses to the achievement of sustainability objectives by executives. “There is no impact on executive pay when a company meets, or fails to meet, its self-set environmental sustainability targets”, they find. According to them, such a regulatory provision would make it possible to “free ourselves from the sometimes contradictory injunctions between financial performance and environmental performance, since the structure of the ‘bonus’ incorporates both”, they stress.
