The Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament said, on Monday 17 January, that it has written to the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, asking him to reject the current copy of the French national strategy plan implementing the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
Benoît Biteau (Greens/EFA, France) stressed in a press release that for several months “warnings about the lack of ambition of the French plan have been multiplying”.
However, according to him, the French strategic plan “condemns the EU’s climate ambitions, goes against the objectives of the Water Framework Directive, the ‘Nitrates Directive’ and the European Green Deal”.
In particular, Mr Biteau claims that the strategic plan, which will be evaluated by the Commission by the summer of 2022, supports the High Environmental Value (HEV) label “whose environmental performance is inconsistent”.
“If the Commission is serious about its green policy ambitions, it must act”, said Benoit Biteau.
The letter is signed by the French members of the Greens/EFA group, including François Alfonsi, Damien Carême, David Cormand, Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield, Karima Delli, Claude Gruffat, and Yannick Jadot.
