17/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – The Covax Facility, led by GAVI, WHO and CEPI, has delivered its first billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine to 144 countries and territories around the world, GAVI, the Global Vaccine Alliance, said on Saturday 15 January via Twitter (see EUROPE 12868/20). Relaying the news, EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen welcomed the news, saying that the EU had delivered 265.3 million doses [up from 255 million on 6 January (see EUROPE 12863/15)]. She announced that the billionth dose had arrived in Rwanda that evening. “This historic achievement gives hope that with solidarity we can end the pandemic. I am proud of TeamEurope’s major contribution to this multilateral effort”, she said. One of last week’s deliveries was 1.2 million doses donated by Belgium to Mozambique. (AN)
