05/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – In the article “EU Taxonomy, European Commission accused of greenwashing”, dated 4 January 2022 (see EUROPE 12861/1), we wrote that the inclusion of nuclear energy in the EU taxonomy represents a victory for France. However, we would like to point out that Paris wanted to classify nuclear power as a ‘green’ activity, whereas the European Commission’s proposal is to include nuclear power in the taxonomy, but as a “transitional” activity (see EUROPE 12860/1). This is undoubtedly a way of satisfying both France and Germany, which is strongly opposed to nuclear power. (DG)
