Gas prices in Europe rise again

05/01/2022 (Agence Europe)Fossil gas prices in Europe have risen again at the beginning of the year, after having fallen from their peak on 21 December. The reason: growing nervousness on the European gas market, mainly due to the weakening of pipeline deliveries via Ukraine from Russia, explains Barbara Lambrecht, an analyst at the German bank Commerzbank, in a note. For the sixteenth consecutive day, fossil gas from Russia to Europe via the Yamal-Europe pipeline has flowed in the opposite direction, eastwards, according to the Reuters news agency. Added to this factor are the political tensions between Moscow and Kiev (supported by the EU) and a potential increase in demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Asia. (DG)
