24/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – Ambassadors from EU Member States agreed, on Wednesday 24 November, to extend the sanctions regime for human rights violations. This framework, adopted on 7 December 2020, is valid until 8 December 2023, but the list of sanctioned persons and entities must be reviewed annually (see EUROPE 12617/2). Eleven individuals and four entities are sanctioned under this global human rights sanctions regime: four Chinese individuals and one entity, two North Koreans and the North Korean Central Prosecutor’s Office, a Libyan militia and two of its members, two Russians and one South Sudanese and the Eritrean National Security Agency (see EUROPE 12683/1). According to an EU source, this extension should be formally adopted at the EPSCO Council of the EU on 6 and 7 December. (CG)
