04/11/2021 (Agence Europe) – Negotiations between France and the UK on fishing licences for French vessels in British waters will continue next week, according to information obtained on Thursday 4 November, after a meeting was held in Paris between the British Secretary of State for Brexit, David Frost, and the French Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune (see EUROPE 12824/2). Paris and London remain at loggerheads over post-Brexit fishing licences for Europeans. France has threatened to ban British fishing vessels from landing their cargoes in French ports and to tighten up customs checks on all trucks if London does not grant more licences to French fishermen. In the end, France provisionally lifted the ultimatum pending the meeting in Paris. David Frost is set to meet with the Vice-President of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič, in Brussels this Friday. (LC)
