European manufacturers call on EU to accelerate deployment of charging stations for electric vehicles

03/11/2021 (Agence Europe)The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) alerted EU policymakers, on Wednesday 3 November, on the lack of available charging infrastructure for electric cars. ACEA also points to the fact that only one in nine charging points in the EU is currently a fast charger. “To convince more citizens to switch to electricity, we need to eliminate all the inconveniences associated with charging”, said ACEA Director General Eric-Mark Huitema. “People must see many chargers in their daily environment”, he added. These statements come as the deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure is one of the European Commission’s priorities in the ‘Fit for 55’ package, which aims to achieve a 55% reduction in the EU’s net greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (see EUROPE 12807/6).
