25/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – The spokesman of the European External Action Service denounced on Monday 25 October the publication by Israel of tenders for the construction of more than 1,300 housing units in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and an additional 83 units in Givat Hamatos in East Jerusalem. “We call upon the Government of Israel to halt settlement construction and to not proceed with the announced tenders”, he said in a statement, recalling the illegality of settlements under international law. Earlier in the day, spokesman Peter Stano explained that the EU had taken note of Israel’s inclusion of six Palestinian NGOs - two of which receive EU funding - on the list of terrorist organisations, for their links with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The EU takes the allegations very seriously, the spokesman said, adding that the EU had requested clarification. (CG)
