25/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – On the eve before a meeting of EU Energy Ministers on soaring energy prices (see other news), the European campaign Renovate Europe published an open letter, on Monday 25 October, calling on them to prioritise energy renovation. “The truly sustainable answer to tackle rising energy prices and protect consumers is to cut our energy demand through deep energy renovation”, the letter says. Stating that it would be possible to reduce the energy demand of the EU’s building stock by 80%, Renovate Europe calls, in particular, for prioritising building renovation in national recovery plans and ensuring ambitious minimum energy performance standards in the upcoming revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (2018/844).
