Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Unilever are three biggest plastic polluters in world, according to Break Free From Plastic

Brussels, 25/10/2021 (Agence Europe)The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo and Unilever are the world’s three biggest polluters by plastic use, according to the NGO Break Free From Plastic’s brand ranking - the fourth such ranking since 2018 - revealed on 25 October. Coca-Cola topped the podium for the fourth year running, with almost 20,000 products found on beaches. PepsiCo has been listed for the third year in a row despite the company’s recent voluntary commitments to halve its use of virgin plastic by 2030. For the first time, Unilever has risen to third place, in the same year that the company acts as the main partner of COP26 in Glasgow (31 October-12 November). Given that 99% of plastic is made from fossil fuels, NGOs find Unilever’s role in COP26 particularly insulting. (AN)
