25/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – Only the cities of Barcelona (Spain), Helsinki (Finland), Leuven (Belgium), Luxembourg (Luxembourg), Palma (Spain) and Porto (Portugal) are still in the running for the 2022 Access City Award, the European Commission announced on Monday 25 October. A jury of EU and national experts selected these six finalists from the 40 European cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants that applied. The final results will be announced on 3 December. On the occasion of the European Year of Rail (see EUROPE 12628/13), a special mention will be awarded this year to the city that has done the most to make its stations accessible to people with disabilities. The Access City Award was launched in 2010 by the European Commission to recognise “a city’s willingness, ability and efforts to become more accessible”. (AC)
