22/10/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission launched on Friday 22 October a public consultation on the harmonisation of national rules on rear end signals for freight trains. In concrete terms, the Commission intends to put an end to the national rules in Belgium, France, Portugal and Spain requiring that end wagons be equipped with two red lights to operate on their networks. However, these Member States have already submitted reports to the Commission in which various obstacles to the use of reflective plates by 1 January 2022 are identified. With the aim of full harmonisation by 1 January 2026, the draft act provides for EU Member States to report “periodically” on the implementation of measures.
