British Government to give Paris money to monitor migrant departures

11/10/2021 (Agence Europe)On 11 October, the British government announced that it would pay France “in the coming weeks” the money promised to fight migrant smuggling from the French coast, AFP reported. During a visit to northern France over the weekend, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin asked the British government to honour a commitment to pay France €62.7 million in 2021-2022 to fund the increased surveillance of the French coast. Last week, 1,115 migrants were rescued or intercepted by the British authorities in 48 hours. The French minister also called this weekend for a new treaty between London and Paris on the issue of migration flows across the Channel. (SP)
