15 Polish cities commit to gender equality

11/10/2021 (Agence Europe)Fifteen Polish towns and cities, representing over 4 million inhabitants, signed the European Charter for equality of women and men in local life, at a ceremony in Poznan, on Monday 11 October, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) announced in a statement. The announcement, the organisation says, shows “another face” of Polish local authorities, some of which have been in the news for their openly hostile policies towards the LGBTIQ community (see EUROPE 12790/13). The cities concerned are : Bydgoszcz, Chełmno, Jaslo, Łódź, Lublin, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Płońsk, Poznań, Pruszków, Puck, Sopot, Skarzysko-Kamienna, Świdnica, Warsaw and Wałbrzych. The initiative was welcomed by the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli. (PH)
