29/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – With an almost 30% increase in the production of items with recycled plastic in Europe since 2018, the Circular Plastics Alliance has made good progress towards meeting its goal of using 10 million tonnes of recycled plastics per year by 2025, as the European Commission announced on 27 September. The Alliance, based on voluntary commitments (see EUROPE 12332/5), will now take action to ensure the recyclability of 26 plastic products used in packaging, construction, agriculture and household appliances, which together account for more than 60% of plastic waste collected across Europe. According to the European Commission, this measure alone could mean that the target is met by 2025. The Alliance also developed a new roadmap to reach the 10 million tonnes target, and adopted the methodology and rules for a new EU-wide monitoring system for recycled plastics. (AN)
