The EU-27 Ambassadors to the EU will be invited on Friday 1 October to approve the EU Council’s decision on the conclusion of an agreement to align the bilateral air services agreements between the Member States and South Korea.
The agreement allows all EU airlines to offer flights to South Korea from all EU Member States following an agreement with Seoul. This is currently the case for 22 of them.
Until then, airlines owned or controlled by a Member State were only allowed to fly to South Korea from the Member State in question.
The European Commission received authorisation to open negotiations with South Korea on this issue in June 2003.
It was not until 25 June 2020 that the agreement between the EU and South Korea was signed. The European Parliament gave its consent to the conclusion of this agreement on 15 September. (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
