Brussels, 29/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – No fewer than four reports on the links between “human rights and the environment” were unanimously adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on Wednesday 29 September. For Belgian MEP Simon Moutquin, author of the text on the urgent need for additional protocols to the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Social Charter incorporating these so-called “third generation” rights, “the message to the Committee of Ministers could not be clearer, and there is a total awareness within the Assembly” (see EUROPE 12799/23). The other three reports dealt with civil and criminal liability, participatory democracy, and the concept of the rule of law in the face of the climate crisis. The Committee of Ministers now has six months to respond to the resolutions and recommendations attached to these four reports. (VL)
