23/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 22 September, the Member States’ ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper) adopted their position at first reading with a view to formally validating the Interinstitutional Agreement on the proposal for a directive to increase public country by country reporting (CBCR) (see EUROPE 12737/20). Cyprus and Sweden voted against the agreement and the Czech Republic, Ireland, Luxembourg and Malta abstained. These six Member States, plus Croatia and Hungary, have annexed to the legislative text a declaration in which they consider that the future directive should be based on Article 115 TFEU, on the basis of which Member States decide by unanimity, “since both the purpose and the content of the proposal are linked to tax provisions”.
