Greens/EFA Group in European Parliament call for a vote against CAP as reformed

15/09/2021 (Agence Europe)The proposal for a common agricultural policy that is deaf and blind to social, climate and biodiversity issues is therefore a perfect example of what not to do”, said Philippe Lamberts, Co-Chair of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament, on Wednesday 15 September. In the State of the Union debate, he added: “Dear colleagues, there is still time to take a leap. Do the right thing, vote this CAP down”. The plenary vote on the reformed CAP will take place in November (see EUROPE 12787/13). Benoît Biteau (Greens/EFA, France) noted that, during the Parliament committee vote, the German, French and Belgian Socialist MEPs “took everyone by surprise” by refusing to endorse the text on strategic plans, “the central device of the reform. This is an awareness and a position that I welcome”. (LC)
