07/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – A public consultation, launched by the European Commission on Tuesday 7 September, is open until 5 October on the provision, by Members States, of information on the fuel consumption of heavy-duty vehicles. The Commission would like to see an obligation for Member States to provide information annually on the number of powered axles of newly registered heavy-duty vehicles. This would allow the identification of vehicles that fall within the scope of the data provided by manufacturers on the basis of information from one Member State, in accordance with the Commercial Vehicles Directive. This would eliminate the need for additional exchanges with manufacturers and reduce the administrative burden. The transmission of this information would also make it possible to better “monitor the progress made in achieving the CO2 emission reduction targets”, the Commission stresses.
