07/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 6 September, seven former ministers from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia called for EU and NATO action in Montenegro. Concerned about the violence surrounding the investiture of Serbian Orthodox Bishop Joanikije II (see EUROPE 12784/21), politicians have therefore called, in a letter to the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission and the Secretary General of NATO, for European institutions and other allies to engage in an active political dialogue with all the different political and social actors involved in the current crisis in Montenegro and to contribute to a “peaceful resolution to the escalating conflict in the country”. “Pretending that nothing is happening will have dire consequences for Montenegro and the region”, they warned.
