29/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – Fibre optic internet subscriptions overtook DSL subscriptions in 2020. This is at least what the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reports, revealing that almost 50% of broadband connections were made via fibre optics in Luxembourg and Portugal last year. The figure is as high as 70% in Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, and Sweden. Mobile data consumption also jumped by more than 30% in 2020 across the 35 OECD countries. Again, EU Member States top the list with a total of 31 gigabytes (GB) consumed per month in Finland, 25.8 GB in Austria, 23 GB in Latvia, and 20.5 GB in Lithuania. Finally, the OECD points out that the use of teleworking has had a significant impact on these developments in broadband internet. (TM)
