29/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission confirmed on Thursday, 29 July, that Greek Minister of Migration Notis Mitarachi wrote the European Commission to ask for its support in dealing with Turkey, which refuses to take back irregular migrants who entered Greece from its territory. On 28 July, the Greek minister indicated on Twitter that he had asked Turkey to agree to take back 1,908 illegal immigrants in accordance with the EU-Turkey Statement. “We expect Turkey to honour its obligations, which it has regrettably ignored for the last 17 months,” affirmed the minister. Spokesperson Adalbert Jahnz stated that the European Commission has renewed its support for Greece and “continues to make every effort” to provide relief to the authorities on the Greek islands. (SP)
