European Commission approves €10.25 million support for Palanga airport in Lithuania

29/07/2021 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 29 July, the European Commission approved €10.25 million in public support for Palanga airport in Lithuania. The Lithuanian State is considering granting investment aid of this amount to modernise the airport’s infrastructure. The aid includes the reconstruction of the airport runway, taxiway, southern and northern aprons and the renovation of technical systems. The European Commission found that the aid will improve connectivity to and from Palanga and facilitate the development of the region and that the airport operator could not finance the planned investments without public support. Furthermore, the aid is considered proportionate and limited to the minimum. Finally, the European Commission found that the aid is not likely to have a negative impact on the situation of other airports in the same catchment area. (LC)
