27/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Agency for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) signed, on Friday 23 July, a €735 million agreement with the European Commission, awarding it the bulk of the future Sentinel satellite missions of the Copernicus programme. It entrusts EUMETSAT with the continued operation of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 and -6 ocean monitoring missions as well as the upcoming Sentinel-4 and -5 atmospheric monitoring missions and future missions designed to monitor carbon dioxide and the climate. EUMETSAT will also operate, process and disseminate the data from the future Copernicus anthropogenic carbon dioxide-monitoring mission, CO2M. The Copernicus 2.0 agreement also extends funding to the WEkEO Copernicus Data and Information Access Service for the next seven years. (PH)
