27/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 27 July, the European Commission adopted a corrigendum to modify certain aspects of its decision of 4 May 2020 validating a €7-billion French aid package for Air France. This aid measure (a state guarantee for loans and a shareholder loan to Air France) was intended to provide the company with urgent cash support in the context of the coronavirus. The amendments aim to include additional elements in the initial decision in order to conclude that Air France is indeed the sole beneficiary of the aid measure. The Commission considers that these changes are justified in the light of the judgment of the EU General Court of 19 May 2021, which annulled the Commission’s decision approving Dutch aid to KLM on the grounds of insufficient reasoning as regards the assessment of the aid beneficiary.
