23/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – Nabila Massrali, spokesperson for the European External Action Service, condemned the recent Russian decisions against certain media and journalists in a statement issued on Friday 23 July. The Institute of Law and Public Policy (ILPP) and a number of journalists were designated by the Russian Ministry of Justice on Friday 16 July as ‘foreign agents’, and the media company Project Media, Inc. was declared an ‘undesirable organisation’. In addition, the association of lawyers and journalists Team 29 (Komanda 29), which defends human rights and fundamental freedoms in Russia, decided to cease its activities following pressure and accusations from the Russian authorities. The spokesperson said that these decisions run counter to Russia’s international commitments to human rights, including freedom of expression and association. (PH)
