23/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 23 July, the European Commission launched a call for applications to form a new stakeholder working group on offshore renewables, within the framework of the ‘Clean Energy Industry Forum’. This group will be tasked with identifying and defining the challenges facing the offshore renewables sector, and then developing recommendations to overcome them. The Commission hopes that the group will be able to contribute to the ambitions set out in the EU's offshore renewable energy strategy (see EUROPE 12605/12). This calls for the EU to have at least 60 GW of installed offshore wind capacity, and at least 1 GW in ocean energy by 2030, with a view to reaching at least 300 GW and 40 GW respectively by 2050. The deadline for applications to join the working group is 10 September. (DG)
