20/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The number of fines related to breaches of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) increased by 113% between July 2020 and July 2021, reported the financial analysis firm Finbold. Some 709 fines were recorded during this period, compared to a high of 332 the previous year. “The increase in fines over the past year highlights the improvement in the ability of regulators to detect personal data breaches”, the Finbold report says. The total amount of the fines imposed is €293.96 million. Large companies in the digital sector are at the top of the list of punished entities, such as Amazon or Google, which was fined €60 million in France on 18 July and €40 million in Ireland. (TM)
