Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated labour shortages in certain sectors

20/07/2021 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday, 20 July, Eurofound published a study showing that certain sectors are suffering from a labour shortage due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The study indicates that, on the supply side, current shortages are due to the disruption of intra-EU mobility and migration flows, to the fact that workers are switching sectors during the pandemic, and to workers’ reluctance to accept jobs in certain sectors because of concerns about wages and working conditions. As a result, not only have the agricultural and healthcare sectors notably been hit by this phenomenon, but the hospitality sector has as well. Low wages and poor working conditions are another reason for labour shortages in certain sectors (such as in the hospitality sector). For more information: https://bit.ly/3ruktiP (PH)
