13/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU reported to the ‘Space’ Working Group on Tuesday 13 July on the informal EU-ESA conference that was held on 7 July with the aim of developing a European approach to space traffic management. The conference was initiated at the EU-ESA Space Council in November 2020 (see EUROPE 12606/6, 12605/15). Fundamentally, the representatives of the ESA and EU Member States emphasised the need to influence international standards in this area in order to protect Europe’s own interests and the competitiveness of its industry. The participants agreed to pursue the path outlined in the roadmap on space traffic management put forward by the Portuguese Presidency of the EU Council (see EUROPE 12729/4).
