13/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The French Embassy in Austria and the Austrian Embassy in France announced on 12 July that Austria will join the club of associate nations of the European Rapid Reaction Corps (Eurocorps) this summer. Austria’s membership was agreed by the Eurocorps Joint Committee at the end of November 2020 and will be reflected in the arrival of a senior Austrian officer in Strasbourg, the seat of Eurocorps, at the end of the summer, according to the statement. Created in 1992, the Eurocorps brings together some 1,000 soldiers from five member countries, known as ‘framework nations’ (France, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Luxembourg) and now six associate nations (Greece, Turkey, Italy, Romania, Poland and Austria). Eurocorps is involved in the EU’s CSDP mission in Mali, EUTM Mali. (CG)
