29/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – If the 74 candidate fossil gas projects on the EU’s fifth list of projects of common interest (PCIs) are accepted, an additional €41 billion could be spent on fossil gas for their construction and operation, estimates the NGO CAN Europe in a report published on Tuesday 29 June. Produced with the NGO Food & Water Action Europe, this report is based on an analysis of the ‘Ten-Year Network Development Plan’ (TYNDP) 2020 produced by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSO-G). This plan contributes to the formation of the list of CIPs, of which the Commission should propose a fifth version by the end of the year in the framework of the European regulation on trans-European energy infrastructure (TEN-E). CIPs are energy infrastructure projects that are considered essential and are eligible for EU funding. See the report: https://bit.ly/3w5sQ51 (DG)
