29/06/2021 (Agence Europe) – The S&D group in the European Parliament welcomed on Tuesday 28 June the announcements made by the European Commission for a new 2021-2027 European strategic framework on occupational safety and health (see EUROPE 12750/2). But Agnes Jongerius (Netherlands) expressed some regrets on behalf of the group. The MEP urged legislative initiatives to address the issues of mental illness and musculoskeletal diseases, which are on the rise with the pandemic and the exponential development of teleworking. She also expressed disappointment at the lack of actions dedicated to the situation of seasonal workers. Like the trade unions, she wants the European Commission to add 25 mutagens and carcinogens to its list by 2024. Finally, she expects the European Commission to act more ambitiously on the issue of reprotoxics and hazardous medicines handled by nurses and care assistants. (PH)
