Commission on verge of announcing agreement with London on chilled meat export issues

28/06/2021 (Agence Europe)European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič said on Monday 28 June that he was “confident” that a solution could be found “within the next 48 hours to the ban on supplies to Northern Ireland” of chilled meat from Britain, Reuters reported. He is expected to announce an agreement on 30 June on the subject. London had asked for a three-month extension of the grace periods under the Northern Ireland Protocol on controls on exports of chilled meat from Britain to Northern Ireland, a request the Commission said it could accept last week when it met with national ambassadors of the Member States. Mr Šefčovič was speaking to the Northern Ireland Assembly’s executive committee on Monday.
