SURE instrument - European Commission disburses another tranche of financial support to 12 Member States

On Tuesday, 25 May, the European Commission announced that it has disbursed €14.1 billion to 12 Member States under the seventh instalment of the SURE instrument, which aims to support national short-time work schemes in the context of the pandemic.

Thus, Belgium is expected to receive €2 billion, Bulgaria €511 million, Cyprus €124 million, Greece €2.54 billion, Spain €3.37 billion, Italy €751 million, Lithuania €355 million, Latvia €113 million, Malta €177 million, Poland €1.56 billion, Portugal €2.41 billion, and, finally, Estonia €230 million. The institution indicates that Bulgaria and Estonia are receiving support under the SURE instrument for the first time.

According to the European Commission, €90 billion in back-to-back loans has been disbursed (see EUROPE 12723/4). In total, 19 Member States are expected, over time, to receive financial support amounting to €94.3 billion under the instrument. The European Commission adds that €5.7 billion thus remains to be disbursed by the end of 2022. (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
