MEPs call for steel and aluminium safeguard measures to be extended

On Tuesday, 25 May, MEPs on the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA) called for the European Commission to extend the safeguard measures on steel and aluminium. 

The European Commission is in the process of assessing this potential extension with a view to making a proposal in early June. The safeguard measures that the EU put in place in 2018 in order to protect the European steel industry expire in June 2021.
