18/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – The German Constitutional Court rejected on Tuesday 18 May two complaints against the ECB’s quantitative easing (PSPP) of public sector securities, ruling that the ECB had demonstrated that the programme was appropriate since the Constitutional Court’s judgment of 5 May 2020, which had questioned the proportionality of PSPP (see EUROPE 12688/21) These claims are “unfounded”, the Karlsruhe Court ruled, as the German government and the Bundestag have made a detailed assessment of the monetary policy decisions taken by the ECB Governing Council following the 5 May ruling, “including the proportionality assessment conducted and supported by the ECB”.
