28/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – The future of the financial architecture for development, with a view to increasing its effectiveness, impact and visibility in a post-Covid-19 world, is the only topic to be discussed by the European Development Ministers on Thursday 29 April during a video conference chaired by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell. This policy debate will take over from the exchange between the Finance Ministers in favour of a ‘status quo plus’, i.e. improving the existing situation without major institutional changes regarding the EIB and EBRD (see EUROPE 12707/21, 12701/15). Coordination and development of the ‘Team Europe’ approach should be prioritised, according to the draft EU Council conclusions, which this political debate will feed into in the framework of the political coordination between the two competent EU Council formations (ECOFIN and Foreign Affairs in its Development format) (see EUROPE 12376/4). The adoption of the conclusions is expected in May. (AN)
