27/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 27 April, the European Commission proposed the activation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to support nearly 1,500 former employees of the air services company Swissport Belgium with €3.7 million (out of a total support of €6.2 million). The aim is to help them find a new job, acquire new skills or start a business. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic-related restrictions, Swissport and Aviapartner, the two ground handling service providers at Brussels airport, have been severely affected, with both companies’ revenues falling by 95% compared to pre-pandemic levels. Swissport was declared bankrupt on 9 June 2020, a week before the planned re-launch of European flights at Brussels airport, and its 1,468 workers lost their jobs. (PH)
