European Commission invites Clean Hydrogen Alliance members to submit investment projects

The European Commission called on all members of the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance on Monday 12 April to submit projects on renewable and low-carbon hydrogen technologies and solutions.

This call is an important step forward in the work of the Alliance. It will help build the project pipeline and assess and address gaps and bottlenecks in the clean hydrogen value chain”, said the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton.

Composed of more than 1,000 members (industry representatives, national and local public authorities, civil society organisations, etc.), theEuropean Clean Hydrogen Alliance was launched on 8 July 2020 with the aim of identifying and building up a pipeline of investment projects that would cover the entire hydrogen value chain, thereby creating a “clean” hydrogen market (see EUROPE 12523/1).

The Alliance is part of the EU’s hydrogen strategy, which has the objective of installing 6 GW of renewable hydrogen electrolysers and producing up to 1 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2024, and 40 GW of renewable hydrogen electrolysers and 10 million tonnes of renewable hydrogen by 2030.

The deadline for the submission of projects is 7 May. The next plenary meeting of the Alliance (called the European Hydrogen Forum) will then discuss the projects on 17 and 18 June. (Original version in French by Damien Genicot)
