12/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – Almost two in three city dwellers (63%) support the idea that after 2030 only emission-free cars should be allowed to be on sale in Europe, according to a large survey (over 10,000 people in 15 major European cities) published by T&E on Monday 12 April. The majority of city dwellers support this gradual phasing out of vehicles, with Antwerp being the least in favour (51%) and support in Rome being the strongest (77%). Respondents who have been infected with Covid-19 or whose relatives have suffered from the virus show significantly higher support for this measure (66% compared to 56% for others). Price (55%), infrastructure (51%) and the range of electric vehicles (45%) are seen as the principle factors that will make sales of electric cars exceed those of internal combustion cars, according to the respondents.
