12/04/2021 (Agence Europe) – A group of eight civil society organisations (BEUC, E3G, ECOS, EGEC, EHPA, Euroheat & Power, Renewable Heating and Cooling Alliance and Solar Heat Europe) sent a letter to Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson on Monday 12 April, asking her to include a binding target for sustainable heating and cooling systems in the forthcoming revision of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II). They also call for the introduction of an obligation for Member States to develop national decarbonisation plans for this sector. In their view, these plans should include clear deadlines and targets for the deployment of sustainable heating systems, such as smart heat pumps, the deployment of district heating networks and the phasing out of fossil fuels in heating.
