24/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 23 February, Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, called on the Israelis and Palestinians to take “mutually beneficial” measures to deal with the “deteriorating situation on the ground” and rebuild confidence. In an oral statement issued at the end of the videoconference meeting of the Ad-Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC), Borrell said he believed that tackling Covid-19 and stabilising the Palestinian economy were “important” areas where measures of this kind could be taken. The High Representative also called on both sides to avoid any unilateral action that might increase tensions and undermine the two-state solution, and mentioned the expansion of settlements, demolitions and incitement to violence amongst other factors.
