24/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – French MEP and co-president of The Left group, Manon Aubry, launched a citizens’ campaign on Wednesday 24 February in favour of a European due diligence in the face of last-minute attempts by companies to “destroy all the ambition within the text”. The vote in the European Parliament plenary session on the text adopted by the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) on ensuring due diligence in the supply chain of companies with regard to human rights and the environment (see EUROPE 12645/4 ) is scheduled for the week of 8 March. The MEP is specifically targeting BusinessEurope and Afep who have recently contacted MEPs to persuade them to vote against the text by employing “spurious arguments”, she reports. To counter this lobbying, Manon Aubry has therefore decided to launch a citizen-led mobilisation movement on social networks using the hashtag #QuiCommande as a reminder that it is to citizens and not lobbies that decision-makers and multinationals must be accountable, she said in a statement.
