24/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – After having been discussed at the Ecofin Council of 16 February (see EUROPE 12659/2), the tax and banking obligations that weigh on the “Accidental Americans”, under the American ‘FATCA’ (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act), remain on the agenda of the Council of the EU. The subject will be discussed again on 2 March at the meeting of the Council’s High Level Working Party on Tax Questions. “The aim is to hear the views of the delegations on how to proceed in the dialogue with the US tax authorities”, a European source told us on Wednesday 24 February. On the same day, an exchange of views with a representative of the US Treasury is also scheduled, but it will be very general and will cover several international tax issues of common interest, she said.
