The EU Council extended, on 23 February, with the publication of the legal acts in the Official Journal of the EU, the mandates of five EU Special Representatives (EUSRs), which initially expired on 28 February 2021.
Thus, the mandate of the EUSR for Human Rights, Eamon Gilmore, was extended for 24 months, until 28 February 2023. For the period from 1 March 2021 to 28 February 2023, a budget of 2.69 million euros has been allocated to the Special Representative.
The mandate of Peter Burian as EU Special Representative for Central Asia is extended until 30 June 2021 and that of Toivo Klaar as EUSR for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia until 28 February 2022, with a budget of 2.94 million euros for 12 months.
Ángel Losada Fernandez sees his mandate as EUSR for the Sahel extended by four months until 30 June 2021. He has been in this position since the end of 2015.
Finally, the mandate of Susanna Terstal as EUSR for the Middle East Peace Process (MEPP) is extended until 30 April 2021, i.e. for two months. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
